Read a PPR size wrong and it gets expensive fast — a fitting that won’t fuse, a hot line specced at the wrong pressure class, an on-site swap that stalls the job. This guide from a French pipe manufacturer maps every PPR outside diameter to its wall thickness, in both mm and inches, explains PN pressure ratings, and shows how to pick PN20 for hot and cold water — so your estimator, consultant and installer all work from one sheet.

PPR is a metric product. It is sized by outside diameter (OD) in mm, and the wall thickness is set by the pressure class. The inch figure is only a nominal reference — always match by the actual mm OD, never by the inch label. The tables below use the IFANNova PN20 range (series 1103); the range is three diameters and stops at 32 mm.
Below is the IFANNova PN20 range (series 1103). Wall thickness for 20, 25 and 32 mm is first-hand spec, and these three diameters are the full range.
| OD (mm) | Wall thickness (mm) | Nominal inch (ref.) | Pressure class | Series | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 2.8 | ~1/2″ | PN20 | 1103 | Fixture branches, small hot/cold runs |
| 25 | 3.5 | ~3/4″ | PN20 | 1103 | Risers, distribution, radiators |
| 32 | 4.4 | ~1″ | PN20 | 1103 | Mains, underfloor heating manifolds |
Wall thickness for 20, 25 and 32 mm is confirmed IFANNova PN20 spec (series 1103). These three diameters are the full PPR range — 32 mm is where it stops, not a gap in the data.
PPR pipe is sized by outside diameter in mm, with wall thickness set by pressure class. On the IFANNova PN20 range (series 1103), the sizes are 20×2.8, 25×3.5 and 32×4.4 mm (OD × wall). The inch figure (½”, ¾”, 1″) is a nominal reference — match by the actual mm OD.
Unlike metal or PVC pipe, PPR isn’t specified by a schedule number — the market designates it by PN (Pressure Nominal) class, while ISO 15874-2 itself dimensions PP-R by S series. PN is the nominal pressure the pipe is rated to hold at a reference temperature. The key relationship:
IFANNova PPR (series 1103) is PN20 in all three diameters, so one pressure class covers every PPR line on your hot and cold system — no mixing classes, no selection errors on the BOM.
PPR = Polypropylene Random copolymer — the “full form” specifiers ask for. PN = Pressure Nominal.
A PPR system only works when the fitting size matches the pipe OD exactly — heat fusion welds the fitting socket onto the pipe end, so a mismatch simply won’t fuse. Each pipe size has its matched fittings (series 1138): elbows, tees, couplings, and male/female threaded adapters that transition to metal fixtures.
| Pipe OD (mm) | Nominal inch | Common matched fittings (series 1138) |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | ~1/2″ | Elbows, tees, couplings, ½” threaded adapters |
| 25 | ~3/4″ | Elbows, tees, couplings, ¾” threaded adapters |
| 32 | ~1″ | Elbows, tees, couplings, 1″ threaded adapters |
On mm ↔ inch: because PPR is metric, the inch value is nominal. Rough guide: 20 mm ≈ ½”, 25 mm ≈ ¾”, 32 mm ≈ 1″. When ordering or cross-checking imported stock, always confirm by the mm OD, not the inch label — that’s how you avoid receiving the wrong-diameter batch.
PPR is joined by heat fusion (socket welding), not glue or threads. A welding tool heats the pipe end and the fitting socket to melting point; they’re pushed together and cooled into one homogeneous, leak-free joint — as strong as the pipe itself. That’s exactly what a drinking-water or heating line needs. Key points where sizing precision decides success:

Every outside diameter and wall thickness in mm and inches, mapped to PN pressure class across the PN20 series 1103 range, with matched fitting sizes. One sheet your estimator quotes from and your consultant checks off — no more cross-referencing three documents.
Knowing the sizes is step one; sourcing a matched, certified system is step two. IFANNova is a French brand with its own 120,000 m² facility manufacturing PN20 PPR pipe (series 1103) in 20, 25 and 32 mm and the matching fittings range (series 1138) — each of the three diameters with its matched elbows, tees, couplings and threaded adapters.

For the estimator & project buyer — PPR is sized by outside diameter in mm, with wall thickness set by the pressure class. On the IFANNova PN20 range (series 1103), the sizes are 20×2.8, 25×3.5 and 32×4.4 mm (OD × wall); the range stops at 32 mm. Match by mm OD, not the inch label. Full figures are in our sizing chart PDF.
For the project buyer & consultant — PN = Pressure Nominal — the nominal pressure rating; the market designates PPR by PN class instead of schedule numbers, while ISO 15874-2 itself uses S series. Higher PN means a thicker wall. For hot and cold pressurised water, underfloor heating and radiators, use PN20. IFANNova PPR is PN20 in all three diameters, so one class covers every PPR line and removes selection errors.
For the importer & distributor — PPR is metric, so mm is the true size and inch is only nominal. Rough guide: 20 mm ≈ ½”, 25 mm ≈ ¾”, 32 mm ≈ 1″. Because it’s nominal, always confirm imported or reordered stock by the actual mm OD, not the inch label — that’s how you avoid a wrong-diameter batch.
For the distributor & installer — PPR is joined by heat fusion (socket welding), not glue. The tool melts pipe end and fitting socket, then they’re pushed together into one leak-free joint. That’s why the pipe OD must match the fitting exactly — an out-of-tolerance diameter won’t fuse cleanly, which is why consistent, spec-true wall thickness matters.
For the importer & brand owner — from IFANNova — a French brand with its own 120,000 m² facility producing PN20 pipe (1103) in 20, 25 and 32 mm and the matching fittings range (1138), certified to German SKZ, WRAS and DVGW.
